Vidar's Chair

Ash, seagrass

This chair is based on a chair Vidar Malmsteen, son of the renowned swedish furniture maker Carl Malmsteen, made around 1970. The templates were derived from one of the originals and all the parts are shaped with handtools to their final dimensions. Every part of the chair is taken out of the plank in a way that the grain follows all the curves. This results in a visually very calm chair, that is still very strong and light. All the joinery is finally fitted by hand to tightest tolerances. The seagrass weave, with its green and brown tones, complements the wax finished ash very well. And besides being beautiful, it is simply an exceptionally comfortable chair to sit in: Not too high, it lets the feet rest on the ground, and it supports the back/ spine in a rather upright position, that allows you to sit focused and pain free for a long time.
